Help and Support

We read every message. Email support@amos.live and a person will get back to you, usually within two business days. Include what you were doing and what you expected to happen. Never include another person's name or status in a support message.

Clearing with someone

Tap Clear with someone on the Clear tab. Nearby finds a phone in the same room over the local network and Bluetooth; both of you need the app open on Nearby. Code shows a QR code for the other person to scan, or scans theirs; codes expire after ten minutes. Phone number sends a request to someone who is not with you, and you both see each other's status when they accept. Group lets you add three or more people one at a time and clear everyone at once.

Both of you see only each other's name and status. Nothing else is shared.

Checking in after

After you clear, the Clear tab asks whether it happened. Answering keeps your calendar right and, more importantly, keeps alerts accurate for everyone. If it happened, choose the date and a score from 1 to 100. Group encounters are scored as the group, separately from one-on-one.

If you get an alert

An alert means someone you were with, or someone they were with, reported a positive test, and the timing means you may have been exposed. It does not mean you are infected, and it does not tell you who reported.

Get tested on or after the date in the alert. Testing earlier can miss an infection. Until then, your status shows Needs a test to anyone you clear with. When you upload a test that covers that infection and is dated on or after the retest date, your status returns to Clear.

If you have symptoms, or think you may have been exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, see a healthcare provider right away. Do not wait for the retest date.

Reporting a positive test

On the You tab, tap Report a positive result, choose the infection, and enter the date of the positive test and your last clean test. People who may have been exposed get an anonymous alert. Nobody is told who reported, and Clearly will never confirm it to anyone. Your status shows Positive until you upload a clean test dated after treatment.

Uploading a test

On the You tab or from your status card, tap Add a test result. Choose a file or photo of your results, set the test date, and mark which infections came back clear. A test only clears an alert if it covers that infection and is dated on or after the retest date.

Subscription

Clearly is free for your first three months, then $4.99 a month through the App Store. To cancel, open Manage subscription in Settings, or go to your Apple account settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged. Refunds are handled by Apple.

Deleting your account

Settings, then Sign out, removes your data from this phone. Settings, then Delete my account, removes your account and everything we hold: it asks for your passcode, then deletes your profile, tests, reports, encounters, and uploaded documents. Alerts already sent to other people are not recalled; they contain nothing about you.

Where to get tested

In the United States, gettested.cdc.gov lists free and low-cost testing near you. Planned Parenthood, local health departments, and many pharmacies and clinics also offer testing. Many places let you test without a parent or insurance.

Questions people ask

What does Clear actually mean?

It means nobody who logged an encounter with you within the relevant window has reported a positive test through Clearly, and you have no open alert. It is a signal, not a guarantee. People can be infected without knowing, and not everyone is on Clearly. Keep using protection and keep testing.

Will anyone know I reported?

No. Alerts never include your name, number, or anything identifying. We do not tell the people alerted who reported, and we will not confirm it if they ask. The only practical limit is that someone with a single recent partner might guess. Clearly never confirms a guess.

Who gets an alert when I report?

Anyone who logged an encounter with you on or after the earliest date you could have been infectious, which is one window period before your last clean test. Also anyone those people were with after that. Nobody from before the window is alerted.

Which infections does Clearly track?

Chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, syphilis, HIV, HPV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and Mycoplasma genitalium. Herpes is not included: it is very common, often lifelong, usually diagnosed from symptoms rather than routine screening, and a window-based alert would mislead more than it helps. Talk to a provider about it directly.

What does "clear, but uncertain" mean?

Nobody has reported anything that reaches you, but your verified tests do not yet cover the basic panel: chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. Once they do, your status reads simply Clear. Either way, the people you clear with see exactly which infections your tests covered.

What happens to a test I upload?

It is saved as pending and checked right away. An automated reader looks at the document to confirm it is a lab or clinic result, matches the date you entered, and shows a negative result for each infection you marked. Most checks finish in seconds. If it cannot be sure, a member of our team looks. A test counts toward your status only once it is verified, and a rejected upload tells you why so you can fix it.

I forgot my passcode.

Tap Forgot your passcode? wherever it asks for one. For your safety the reset takes 12 hours: every device on your account is told right away, and entering the current passcode at any point cancels it. After the wait, the same place offers Choose a new passcode. We never reset it by text message, because someone holding your unlocked phone would get that text too.

Who can see my partners, calendar, or scores?

Only you. People you clear with see your name, your Instagram handle if you added one, the kind of your status, and, when you are clear, which infections your tests covered. Nothing else. That is true even in a group.

I got an alert. Am I infected?

Not necessarily. It means you may have been exposed. Get tested on or after the date in the alert. Testing too early can miss it. If you have symptoms, see a provider right away.

Why can't I clear my alert with a test from last week?

Each infection takes time to show on a test. A result from before the retest date cannot rule it out, so it does not clear the alert. The app tells you the earliest date that counts.

How do groups work?

Choose Group under Clear with someone, add each person by Nearby, code, or phone, and clear everyone at once. A group is logged and scored as its own thing, separate from one-on-one with the same people. For alerts, everyone in the group counts as having been with everyone else.

What if someone lies?

Clearly depends on honesty and cannot verify anything. If someone does not report, does not log, or uploads a fake result, the app cannot know. That is why Clear is a signal and not proof. If you believe someone is abusing Clearly, report it to support.

How much does it cost?

Your first three months are free. After that it is $4.99 a month through the App Store, and it renews automatically until you cancel.

How do I cancel?

Settings, Manage subscription, or your Apple account settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.

Do you sell my data or show ads?

No and no. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers, data brokers, insurers, or employers. See the Privacy Policy for the full list of who can see what.

Is this medical advice?

No. Clearly is an information tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace a healthcare provider. Talk to a provider about testing, symptoms, exposure, and treatment.

Do I have to share my contacts?

No. Sharing contacts only makes clearing by phone number quicker: you pick a person from a list instead of typing their number. The list stays on your phone, it never shows who is on Clearly, and we never keep your address book or contact anyone in it.

How do I delete my account?

Sign out in Settings removes your data from this phone. Delete my account, at the bottom of Settings, removes your account and everything we hold right away after you enter your passcode.

Why does Nearby not find the other phone?

Both phones need the app open on the Nearby screen, with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on and Local Network permission allowed for Clearly. If it still does not work, use Code or Phone number instead.
